I imagine that, back in the day, people often felt helpless because they didn’t have a choice. These days, some of our overwhelm comes from having too many choices that don’t feel like ours to make.
They come at us full force as things we “have to” or “should” do, rather than things we get to choose.
Feeling overwhelmed is one of the things I hear about most in my client calls. In my own body, overwhelm often feels a lot like helplessness.
So rather than trying to think our way out of overwhelm, we can start by noticing how it feels in the body and exploring the difference between “I have to” and “I get to.”
In this video, I take you through a somatic practice to process overwhelm through your body (the same practice I did with a client last week). Bring a pen and paper, and practice with me:
💚 When you’re ready, here are four ways I can support you:
Apply for the next Posture in Motion: a small-group posture and somatic practice to help you feel more at home in your body, move with greater ease, and shift the patterns keeping you tense, braced, or in pain.
Discover Your Body’s Story: a free five-minute quiz to understand what your body may be telling you—especially if you feel wired but drained, stuck in a loop, or disconnected from yourself.
Hire me for a Live Experience: immersive virtual and in-person wellbeing events that bring the body back into the conversation through nervous system regulation, breathwork, and posture-focused practices.
Practice with me live on Insight Timer: join my Monthly Unconditioning Practice to reconnect with your body’s wisdom, or an Embodied Focus Session combining focused work sprints with movement, music, and community.
Thank you for joining me on the path of unconditioning,
