You were meant to move.
You are not just a mind, you have a body.
And contrary to what we’ve been conditioned to believe, your body is not there to hinder you.
We’ve been taught to sit still, stay glued to screens, and ignore the signals our bodies send us. That tension in your shoulders? The stiffness in your back? That feeling of disconnect? It’s your body trying to remind you of what it needs.
Movement snacks are tiny invitations to reconnect, to shake off not just the physical tension but also the conditioning that says productivity means turning into robots. Moving isn’t just about reducing pain or boosting energy (though it does both!). It’s about remembering who you are beyond the grind.
I’m dropping into your inbox with two simple ways to weave more movement into your day. Let’s get into it.
1/ Take Intentional Breaks (aka Make Pomodoro Your Dance Partner)
Like many of you, I spend a lot of time behind my computer. But I always come back to this question: How can I bring more intention into my day?
One of the simplest ways? Pomodoro. It’s 25 minutes of focused work, followed by a 5-minute break. But here’s the twist: I use those breaks to have a dance party. Not because it’s some productivity hack (though it definitely helps with focus and keeps me from chasing fast dopamine), but because moving makes me feel alive. Changing your physiology can shift how you show up every day.
I throw on my favorite Persian tracks, and it’s a whole vibe. You’d be surprised how just a couple of these dance breaks can transform your day. And if dancing isn’t your thing? No stress. Shake your body out for a minute, stretch, or just move in a way that feels good to you.
If you’ve got a calendar full of meetings, you could even make a little commitment: one dance party after every meeting. It’s about breaking up the monotony and reminding yourself that you’re more than just a mind at a desk.
2/ Move with Awareness: Chair Exercises to Bring You Back into Your Body
Sitting for hours can leave you feeling stuck in your head and disconnected from your body. That’s why I put together some simple chair exercises, perfect for when you’ve been at your desk too long and your body’s screaming for attention. These moves will help you feel grounded, improve your posture, and ease that achy feeling.
But, and this is important, this isn’t about finding ways to justify staying stuck inside all day. Take every opportunity you have to step outside, breathe in fresh air, and go for a walk. But when that’s not an option, these quick movements will help you stay connected. It’s about making space for your body in a world that often asks us to ignore it.
Movement is a Radical Act. This isn’t just about reducing tension or boosting energy (though you’ll get that too). It’s about unconditioning ourselves from systems that tell us to turn into robots and ignore our bodies' needs. Every time you move with intention, you’re reclaiming a little piece of yourself.
Try these out, see how they feel, and let me know what shifts for you.
